Fiona McArdle, mezzo soprano
Fiona McArdle is an accomplished mezzo-soprano recognised for her versatility and depth of expression across opera, concert, and oratorio repertoire.
Fiona made her professional debut with State Opera South Australia in 2017, appearing as La Ciesca in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Recent roles with the company include the Minskwoman in Flight, Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Cousin Hebe in H.M.S. Pinafore, and Miss Jessel in Turn of the Screw. She has also worked with the Australian touring company Co-Opera, including touring as Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte.
Internationally, Fiona has sung with Pittsburgh Festival Opera and Symphony New Hampshire, appearing in The Silent Woman, Agrippina, and Wagner’s The Essential Ring. In 2019, Fiona made her UK debut as Mimì in La Bohème with Hampstead Garden Opera in London.
Fiona has been featured in concert performances such as Accent on the 20th Century with Adelaide Hills Chamber Players and Songs for a Muse with State Opera South Australia. She is also an experienced oratorio soloist, having performed in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiemand Vivaldi’s Gloria.
Fiona continues to champion both traditional and contemporary repertoire. She is currently completing a PhD thesis at the University of Adelaide focused on highlighting 21st-century art song compositions by Australian women composers, acknowledging their significant contributions to Australia's classical music landscape.
